These are two diffrent programs used for diffrent things. Zone alarm is a firewall used to block incomming/outgoing traffic while AVG is an Anti-virus program. I would leave both on.

But if you also have Windows firewall on I would turn it off, two firewalls is just asking for trouble. Same with two Anti-Virus programs, they tend to conflict with each other.

If you are using the purchased zone alarm, then you will have an antivirus with zone alarm. And using AVG antivirus will cause serious conflict with two antivirus program in your system. (You can have three or four antispyware without conflict, as one will always find what is missed by the others).

Myself I use the free zone alarm for ten plus years. An I can tell you that zone alarm is not known to slow your system down.

I take it you are using the free zone alarm firewall. ZoneAlarm is known to slow down your internet connection. I would get rid of zonealarm and keep the AVG antivirus. Then I would get ComodoFirewall. It is free and works really well. Go to: www.personalfirewall.comodo.com
