I believe it is normal, my son didn't cry until they spanked him, then he stopped after that. I don't think birth defects or problems have to deal with this.

Well, they should have a good, healthy cry shortly after birth. Coming out completely silent and not crying is usually not a good thing. However, they sometimes don't cry right away because of something minor. For example, my son didn't cry for about 20 seconds because he has a little fluid in his lungs. The nurse suctioned him, and he let out a loud cry. But those were the longest 20 seconds of my life!

My son did not cry right away. A minute or two later when he started to cry it was gurgled. He had liquid in his lungs. I had a c-section and supposedly that is normal for c-section babies. He had to go to the NICU because of that. He was only supposed to be there for 8 hours but ended up there for almost a week due to the fact that they thought he had an infection.

I was there at my grandsons birth and he never gave a wail or cried the entire time he was in the birthing room.. I thought it was the strangest thing. The doctors and nurses acted like nothing. He is 10 years old today and perfectly normal.

My baby didn't cry and her apgar was 10/10. She cried a couple of hours later, when she was trying to latch on.

Gosh, are some doctors still using the old spanking method?? Really outdated and useless procedure.

Edit-

TJ: Sorry, but I don't care. Reported (this is another question, anything to say, you comment on the other one).

2 of my babies didn't cry more than a little whimper till they came home from the hospital. I would think that was a good thing, the only reason they want the baby to cry is to clear any fluids that may be in the lungs.

This question its too vague to answer. How long? In the hospital, or in general? From the moment of birth, or since birth and for weeks after?

My daughter did not cry and they found out she was in respiratory distress! But your question is TOO vague, I agree.

My daughter didn't, she was so peaceful! They finally roughed her up a bit to get her to cry. And she was perfectly fine and healthy.
