How can they elect someone with a criminal record for fraud and r@pe to be the president of South Africa?
Does it make any sence at all to make a celebrity a political leader?

Assuming you are suggesting the new ANC President is a criminal, I don't think he has been found guilty of either of those crimes. In general I guess if someone is permitted by law to run and people are permitted to vote for that person, s/he is elected by receiving the most votes in the sense dictated by the relevant electoral law.

If the celebrity would be a good political leader then, yes, it would make sense to elect her/him.

It looks as though he may be charged before he becomes president.
Now that would stir up some trouble.
