No, it's distracting and I hate it when I can hear another car's bass from the other side of the street. Here's some stuff I found online from an insurance website. These guys are pros at finding out what helps and what hurts a drivers' abilities.
"According to the RAC Foundation research, drivers who were listening to loud music with a fast beat were twice as likely to jump a red light and also twice as likely to have a car accident."

I don't have to my car radio turns the volume up and down based on the speed you are going. Even if it didn't I would crank it up and sing along.

When I drive by myself, always. I also sing at the top of my lungs and get really wierd looks from everyone around me. :)

Yeah, it's awesome. Don't turn it up too loud. I saw someone get pulled over one time because his music was so loud. Plus, if you fo it too loud you'll get pulled over and your speakers will blow.
