My daughter is only one month and I have an awful cold. I am afraid to breathe on her especially while breastfeeding. Is she at risk of getting sick? I also have a 15 month old. What about her?

your newborn is receiving anti bodies from your milk but she is still at risk for getting your cold.

Most newborns have a store of antibodies plus if you are breastfeeding, you are giving her an immune system burst of extra. Even if she does get the cold, it should be a lot less than it would have been. The 15 month old on the other hand is probably gonna get it. On the bright side, the better her immune system is at an early age, the better off she is. Make sure she is getting adequate sleep, Vitamin C (juice), nutrition, minimal stress, and is up to date on vaccinations. Tough as it is, you'll get thru it! Good luck.

Your newborn will have the antibodies as you produce them for your cold, as a result she'll get little more than a runny nose.

Your 15 month old has its own immune system and will fight the cold off just fine.

Colds have a 10 day life span, by the time you have symptoms you have already spread the germs that cause them. If theyre going to get a cold they already have been exposed to it.

You know I would have said yes but I just had the worst cold last weekend with a baby who wasnt even 3 weeks old. I had no choice but to have her around me. My parents were both sick as well so I couldnt send her to either of their houses and her father really isnt totally comfortable taking care of her by himself yet plus we have a 3 year old he needed to be chasing after. Anyways she's not breast fed so I was thinking that of course she would get sick so I didn't even both avoiding breathing on her or that type of thing. Well she's still not sick which is pretty amazing. So it very well may happen but it also may not.

BREASTFEED!!!! The baby gets antibodies from you while nursing. 9 times out of 10 they do not get sick. I breastfed my 3 month old son while I had strep throat and the flu, and to this day he has not gotten sick. Check out the la leche league's website for breastfeeding issues, too.

More than likely your baby was exposed to the germs you are carrying long before you showed symptoms since you are contagious before you are symptomatic. That being said, you are breast feeding her which is the best thing for her immune system. Chances are, she won't get the cold and if she does, just add in a humidifyer to her room and use saline drops and a bulb syringe to alleviate congestion.

Good luck and good job!!!

Since you are breastfeeding your baby should be fine, even if she does get sick it will be a lot less severe and won't last very long. One of the great benefits of breastfeeding!!

My son became consistantly ill. while he became a toddler my dad reported that he became the only toddler he had ever considered that often had stuffiness. My son became on the well being care expert each and all of the time and that they might never do something, different than antibiotics. The antibiotics never helped, they only led to different issues. i might get a 2nd opinion from a pediatrician simply by fact the respiratory issues are continually frightening. confirm no person smokes close to the toddler additionally. i concept they made "Little" products for babies. additionally, we gave my son the tylonel chilly for babies basically a doctor needs to offer you the correct volume. you're doing each and every thing great as far as humidifier, saline, and and so on. while my nephew became ill he might spit up and vomit and his pediatrician instructed my sister it became simply by fact of drainage at the back of the throat.

If you are breastfeeding her she is very unlikely to catch your cold - she's getting the antibodies you are making in her milk.
