Unidentified floating objects.

I don't think they'd come from the sea, they're more likely to want to monitor and contact what's in the oceans.

probes from other planets have been checking us out for a long time in the same way we send probes to other planets. where do you think crop circles came from and our recent boom in technology. ime going back to my world soon. sick of all these nutters on this planet.
