With a large nation state like America how could he be in touch with the nation as a whole ?

Bush is the 1% of the population that makes over 100,000 a year Of that 1% he happens to be the 1/2 of 1% that is of the "ruling class" .

True some people work thier way up through the social economic levels to become great - Oprah Winfrey comes to mind but Bush was not one of those He was a man born into wealth and power he went to the best of schools with no thoughts of debt or student loans - No no there was no question of where his next meal was comming from

How much time do you think he spent getting to know the girl who sold donuts for minimum wage ? Do you think Bush ever had to multipy his hourly wage minus taxes in his head before he purchases somthing on his next paycheck ?

Do you think his grand parents great depression stories involved "Well that what I made thats what we have and you are eating it young man" ?

What possible connection could the man or any other in his positionhave to the working man other than some distant sympathy for somthing he has no knowlege or expierence of ?

He has spent more time with the elites of the nation and the world than he ever has with the gas station attendant the cahier the secratary bus driver factory worker or the "general labourer"

Now to be fair this can be said (most of it) of Clinton, Putin Harper of Canada , Brown of the UK insert the Presient /Prime Minister of your choice

How would you ever expect him to be in touch with the working people of America. He comes from the upper 1%. He's never have to live paycheck to paycheck, save for a child's education, eat just pasta for diner, pay the heating bill one month and not the rent.
How could he possibly be in touch with working people. To him a working person sits a a board of a big corporation and gets millions of dollars in bonuses every year. To him a working person has a multi-million dollar stock portfolio.

It's not just Bush, it's the whole political system. The government doesn't represent the people, but the few, the elitist!

Define working people in America. Yes and no, though I would have to yes based on percent.

I think, save for a small few, all of the politicians are out of touch. They seem to forget that they are supposed to "represent" our (read: the people) interests and make it about them and their cronies.
