People see the car next to them moving, and they automatically start to go themselves. They then see their light is still red and they stop again. No one sits and just stares at the traffic light, they are looking at things around them and glancing at the light every few seconds!

Driving becomes extremely monotonous, especially when it is your morning or evening commute - think about people who have lived in the same place with the same job for over ten years taking the same route daily! Unfortunately, this monotony means that drivers tend to pay less attention to details: they see green and automatically think go, failing to differentiate between the filled-in circles and arrows. Above all, it's simply lack of attention.
