Every one is different some find out at 16 weeks and others find out earlier. It depends on how big the baby is and the position that the baby is in. In my opinion it is better to wait until around 18-22 weeks so that you get an accurate answer. I found out at 19 weeks and my cousin found out at 18 so everyone is different.

You can find out as early as 11 weeks with CVS testing (this tests for downs syndrom in early pregnancy) or amniocentiesis. Or obviously an ultrasound at about 18-21 weeks. The CVS and Amnio testing is the most accurate.

I believe the genitals form at about 8 weeks. If you have an ultrasound after that the u/s tech can make a guess if they can see anything. I was told at 12 weeks I was having a boy but was told not to go buy everything blue cause it could have been the umbilical cord in the way. The best time is during your 20 week u/s.
At my 19th week u/s I found out yes, it was a boy!
Here is a neat trick I found in a book. Look in the mirror and pull your lower eyelid down. At the bottom of your eye in the whites you will see a red vein in the shape of a V. If its in the right eye its a boy, left eye its a girl. I haven't seen this fail yet.
Hope this helps!

18-20 weeks is the normal range but 16 weeks is possible and I have heard of someone finding out at 14weeks.
But to get a more accurate prediction I would say no less than 18weeks. 4D ultrasound can give a clearer image and more likely to be correct earlier in pregnancy.
