they're tryin' to stir up trouble in the polls and surveys area too. seen something about it by mistake on there when I just got bored and couldn't find any new questions here in the country section. hope it ends soon.

Bobby Russell wrote it-I think.
Vicki Lawerence release it in 1973 and Reba did it in 1991.

I agree with you-it isn't right. It is sad that they decided to leave. I will sure miss 'em!

I agree with you about the classic country section. I hate having to weed through the Taylor Swift questions to find a good ol' classic country question. It's horrible that some left because of the nonsense that went on here. I answered a question yesterday and wrote that there's a few bad apples in every bunch, and it's true. The actions of some ruin it for others.

As far as I could research, it was Bobby Russell that wrote it (I had to look it up. Most of the time, I have no idea who wrote a particular song).

I loved hearing Reba sing "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia" and admit I looked up the name of who wrote it out, out of curiosity. Found out the Vicki Lawrence of the Carol Burnett Show was the first person to record that hit song. Interesting question.

Note - I read on MySpace about a type of "club" there is organized for the purpose of pestering folks on Yahoo Answers. They mentioned Religion & Spirituality as a good place to stir up a fuss. I bet they've found Country now to do the same there. Isn't it crazy that young people consider that fun???

Crazy the answer to who wrote the song has already been given. But I agree there should be a separate section for Classic Country. I like ALMOST all country but I don't really want to read anymore Taylor Swift vs Carrie Underwood questions anymore.

As with the "Mainstream" country music the classic country being pushed to the side, but this is one person that is staying and defending "my classic country".
Too many people think there is some kind of a "award" for answering as many questions that's posted but the ream ountry lover answers what they know.So keep mine classic and I'll fight for it.
Merry Christmas to all and to all keep the classic country trivia coming,oh and "the night that the lights went out in Georgia" was written by Bobby Russell.

Vikki Lawrence did a version back in the day then again Reba MacEntire did a version as well so not sure on which one u were looking for. I agree they should have classic country section they have an "other music" section.

I was irritated when I saw a ? about Kayne West in the country section. I had to let the ? poster know to repost that in rap/hip hop.

All the buddies you've mentioned chimed in to my ? about Bluegrass fans so, they're not totally disapearing... lol did u put them on ur contact list... they're pretty knowledeable ppl... I liked their answers.. toodles from Tennessee...

I wish Blueeyedmeenie and Tex would come back.

Vicki Lawrence had it out but don't know if she wrote it.

Reba Macintyre sang it, but I'm not sure if she sang it first.
