Had he always been a sick freak that wanted to kill people and promote his own power? Good question.

I can only tell you this 3rd-hand, but it may be the only answer you will get...

My Great-Grandfather served with Hitler in WWI. He knew the man personally, and he had never liked him, and had been scared of him. Hitler was the reason that my Great-Grandfather's family fled Germany to come to the US. He had a file in the FBI for a while, since he had known Hitler personally.

I can't speak to all the details of Hitler's life, but he was a pretty scary guy before going into politics.

Hitler wanted to be a priest when he was a boy and was very devoted to his mother, witnesses say his grief at her death was moving to say the least. Unfortunately, his intelligence and abilities were twisted by his hatred and rage towards his father. To say good or bad is a theological debate, Hitler was a person that needed intense therapy for his bottled up anger and rages. His demented vision of what was right and wrong pushed him to "save" Germany from the Jews and the Communists, his idea of what was the evil that was assailing Germany. He went to his death believing God was on his side and that he was righteous. He was always anti-semetic, since his teens at the very least, and he had a clear belief in Germanic greatness. You can judge good or bad, I don't. I can merely say twisted.

I guess it depends your perspective....

he was from a young age, to my knowledge, very passionate about German nationalism, was, in my opinion from what I've seen of some of his work, a somewhat talented artist and served in WWI. And after his service and living as a young man in Germany, was discouraged with the then current state of Germany post-WWI.

It's all how you look at it. Wouldn't you be pissed if your country was punished the harshest for being on the losing side of a war it didn't even start and in a deep economic depression as a result by being stripped of it's industrial land, the backbone to your economy, as part of the punishment? And to add insult to injury, the people are just hopeless and feel completely defeated and lose faith in their heritage?

He just used his strong charisma and the bad conditions of his people and country at the time to his advantage, and offered hope along with fulfilling his personal battle against the Jews because he believed they played a major role in keeping Germany down. And at the beginning, he brought Germany up from the ashes and formed a strong military and restored patriotism.

His beliefs about the jews were most likely based off of the fact that he was rejected from an art institute who's board of directors were all jews and other incidents that fueled his hate. Of course, he became a total fruit loop and started screwing things up and cared little for his own people in the end. So, he did a lot for his country in the beginning and ended up tearing it back down in the end

It's like that one saying goes: One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.

I suppose he was as good as Custer or Kit Carson when they massacred the PostIndians. It seems he was nice to his mother and a loyal brave solider Like Andrew Jackson when he overrode Congress and stole Cherokee lands in Georgia. Stop blaming the individual or you never learn from history.

Hitler couldn't do anything without millions of people lifting him up. He was the moral agent of German/Austrian culture. Otherwise you won't recognize it when a "The Nice Man" takes away our right here in this country.

as with just about everyone, Hitler had moments where he was quite kind and compassionate towards others...both before and after he became a politician. it would be so much easier if we could believe that evil people are pure evil. but even Hitler took good care of his mother, and left his sister quite comfortable for the rest of her life.

I have no idea what he was like when young, but I think you're really asking, "How do people become evil?"

I think they do it by degrees, and they rationalize good reasons for their actions. In other words, ion their mind, they think they're doing the RIGHT things, because they've lost or abandoned the moral compass by which most of us steer our lives.

He was constantly attacking and conquering the neighbors' yards. He would then use their children to take more yards and send pets to small concentration camps in the basement. I believe he was trying to purge the world of cats and hamsters.
