His full name is - Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb.

He is the Chairman is the adya or first of such sevaks. For eg., one of his duties (and rights by law) is to sweep the chariots during the Chariot Festivals Rathayatra with a "golden broom". It is called 'chhera pahanra' -- ceremonial sweeping of the three chariots, a ritual performed during the annual car festival. It is the traditional practice followed by the Maharajas of Orissa. Gajapathi is the present Maharaja and he is proud of sweeping the chariots.

Jagannath cult says that all are equal before the Lord", the Gajapati said. The ritual goes back several hundred years and is a symbol of the subjugation of the temporal to the spiritual. "It also symbolises that there is no distinction of caste, creed or any other barrier during the entire festival.-
