I have had issues with burning and pain around the nipple and in my left breast before but no lump. This pain was quite intense and I ended up having to go to the doctor about it. Turned out that this pain was caused for me by a condition called costochondritis which is an inflammatory condition that affects the cartillage around the ribcage.

Because of the lump that you felt this needs to be evaluated by a doctor to see what they think is going on.

Stop making excuses and GO. It may well be nothing - a huge amount of breast problems turn out to be nothing - but a small percentage are something and lives are saved by early diagnosis. Please make the appointment today - your doctor would rather see a book full of women with nothing lumps than 1 dead woman who did nothing about it xxxxx

Being that this is not normal, you really do need to be evaluated by your gyn or PCP. You mention that it's hard... cysts are not hard.

Please, for the sake of your health, call your doctor, get checked out. I wish you all the best.
