Sorry, but there is no good excuse for lying. Tell the truth, and don't let yourself ever get into a situation where you have to make up excuses because you're late.
Employers are very wise to the "my car had trouble" excuse. That's why employers ask if you have reliable transportation to work. That way, you cannot use the "my car had trouble" excuse.

the cerpentine belt snapped. when that happens your not suppose to move your car because it can over heat and you also lose power steering and such. its an easy fix for a car guy to return to work tomorrow if your looking for a one day excuse.

Tell them your car is overheating and you have to go get the radiator looked at??
CHEERS
♥
The radiator is an integral part of the cooling system ..... it holds the water to keep the engine at operating temperature, specified by the manufacturer for optimum fuel economy and performance. if the radiator is leaking the car will keep overheating.

the fuel pressure sensor is corrupt which means the car is losing power when driving and sometimes cuts out which could be extremely hazardous

My car took me to the beach instead of the office.
It has a mind of it's own.
