alot of snowboard wax manufacturers are using a graphite mix in the wax to make it a faster and less frictionable ride. sex wax is no good for snowsticks cause it creates too much friction between the snow and your p-tex and it is made to create friction to grip your feet on a surfboard. the wax that they use now is advancing quite a bit with the different mixes of flourocarbons (not really a wax, its a powder) but I would not recommend you try to do it yourself with that type of wax. The old waxes were a paraffin wax base. Now the waxes are made for certain temps. I prefer One Ball Jay Wax for a good all around wax for any weather. Hope this answers? :)

a special, usually artificial, wax called, yup you guessed it, snowboard wax. you can buy it most sports shops that have snowboards. it's not too expensive, but depending on the brand and how much you need, you could end up spending almost $20.00. I'm guessing that you haven't had any experience waxing a board,(knowing that you didn't know what the wax was) so I suggest that if you dont a have an experienced friend that has done it succesfully before, a lot of ski/snowboarding shops and just about all resorts will wax your board and sharpen/grind your edges. DON'T TRY IT BY YOURSELF! If you do you are almost certain to go wrong your first try. good luck

A special kind of wax for snowboards and skis - make sure you use the all temp kind that you can get at any board shop. You will need tools - edge files, scrapers, an iron to heat it, etc.
Even better, just take your board to the shop and have it tuned and hot waxed - it doesn't cost that much and it is worth it.
Whether or not you do it yourself, I would recommend buying a small bar of all purpose ski / board wax that you can carry with you. If snow starts sticking, you can finish the day by just rubbing it on until you can get your next hot wax.
Good Luck

The easy quick all purpose is Swix F4. It is available in liquid and other wipe on forms (does not need to be ironed in and scraped like fancier waxes).
Notwax is another alternative, different technology, same wipe on.
