To 'download' songs you must have an internet connection. To 'transfer' songs to your iPod an internet connection is not required however you need to download the iTunes software off the internet in the first place.

You do need the internet to download itunes which organises all your music for you and allows you to (legally) download music.
I suppose without the internet you could probably just load all your old cd's onto the computer and from there stick them on your ipod.
But if I was you I wouldn't bother splashing out on an ipod if I didn't have easy access to the internet at home.

No you dont need the internet would be better if you did, as you can buy things from the itunes store, and then also use other download clients like torrents and limewire like programs. Itunes has great feautres to let you Import your own music that has previously been on other media, like CD's and USB Sticks and other Hard Drives.

With CD's you can import straight to your library and itunes also finds the names of the albums and tracks and even withj album art. How cool all for free.

Hope that helps.

Yes. The songs/videos/etc are only downloadable through computers with internet capabilities. Get an account set up on apple.com and check through their forums to read up on this and other questions.

But before you buy a nano, check out the other MP3 players availabe. I haven't had luck with Apple, computers or iPods.

Yes, you do. The only way a song can be downloaded to your computer is through a connection to another computer, via the Internet.

Dial-up is the cheapest for of Internet if cost is a factor, although it's VERY slow.

After iTunes, you don't have to go on the net. If you have purchased copies of CDs or songs in WMA you can transfer them to your iPod.
