I loved this. I'm a guy waiting to come out of the closet and I watched all five seasons to introduce me into the lifestyles of homosexual living. Does this series give a fair representation?

No, I think it 's a good TV show. But Real life is more cruel for gay people. That's the reason there are so many closet cases out there. I watch it just for entertainment.

In a way, Queer as Folk is fair, but then again, in a way, they're not. This show was criticized so much for supposedly misrepresenting the gay community. However, some of the negative lifestyles you see in QAF are the lifestyles quite a few gay men lead, unfortunately, which is why diseases are still running rampant. Keep in mind, yes, it is a great show, but I would try to find my own identity and not the portray the ones you see on TV. Don't come out because of QAF. Come out, because you're tired of hiding who you really are, and you want to start living your life the right way.

In the USA "No" it's nothing like it at all anywhere else in the world it is quite similar. Being a television series they cut out all the ugliness that happens in the American LGBT community. When I went back to the US to see my family, I couldn't believe how homophobic American people really are. With there over the top moralistic, puritan, psychosexual attitudes. I felt just like the guy in the movie "Stonewall" did the whole time I was there. The US, LGBT community are many years behind other LGBT communities around the world. Your treated like a smoker in a bar if you try to show any affection to your partner in the US LGBT scene as well trying to show affection to your partner in public. When being introduced as "a friend" to everyone walking together with crossed arms all of the time totally blew it for a guy I was going out with. Also all Lesbians I know aren't like the actresses in QAF they all don't want babies or live in these television built imaginary families. Life would become boring after a while living in fantasy land.

I liked the English version that came first. The US version was adapted from it and repeated a lot of the UK version. I then got really into the US version and love it. There are stereotypes in it but you will find people and places like that. It was honest but fiction. You'll have a great time on the scene and will meet people who will remind you of some of the characters - but you will meet a lot more as well. Have fun.

I don't know if you are aware of it but the writer of the UK series and consultant for the US series is Russell T Davies, the creator of the new Doctor Who series and writer of many of the episodes. That probably explains why there are gay themes in both Doctor Who and its spin-off, Torchwood.

I watched it all, but I didn't think it was much more than a gay soap really. Some of the characters were annoying and they were always basing episodes on "topical issues" rather than furthering the plot with the characters. I liked the British version quite a bit. I felt the US one kept going on and on and should have ended earlier. I think they represented a range of people, but I didn't really connect with the lesbians in the show. I thought Rosie did a good turn though. I couldn't be bothered with the two main lesbians in the show. Too whiney and not so believable. They should have had better actors for these roles. I thought the same with some of the guys. Overall though I think it was a good show and I enjoyed it at the time.
