I am very curious to hear people's opinions on who the best player in the NBA is. Please make a valid argument with your selection.

Kobe Bryant

The man is the most skilled player in the NBA. He can shoot, he can drive, he can pull up and knock down 15 footers or curl off screens and knock down shots

He can also drive and kick to open teammates or create opportunities or make passes that lead to an assist running the triangle or just his mere presence on the court (with guys double teaming him off the ball)...thats why guys like Sasha Vujacic, Farmar and Fisher are having a fantastic year shooting from the perimeter

His scoring streaks are amazing to watch and he is absolutely deadly when he gets it going. He is also very lethal in the 4th quarter

When you think of the word clutch nowadays, Kobe Bryant is the first name that comes up

He plays aggressive on the ball defense and is a very good one on one defender. He plays center field nowadays and directs traffic and communicates very well on defense directing teammates to which spot to run to or which open shooter to stick onto or if a screen is coming or not....thats a reason why the LA Lakers are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA.

IF you know basketball, you wouldn't be deceived by the 101 points per the game the Lakers give up....they restrict their opponents under 44% which just means opponents get more opportunities to score but they only do it at a smaller rate and Field Goal percentage is a true mark of how good a team is on defense

This man has no weaknesses and if there's any player in the league that demands a triple team 27-30 feet from the basket without the ball in his hands? that would be Kobe Bryant

And that makes him the best player in the NBA today

Well if you go by the numbers this season, Lebron James.
29 points per game, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, not to mention 1.2 blocks. Kobe has 26 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Kobe. People who answered Dirk should watch a game or two. Carlos Boozer(25 points 11 rebounds) and Dwight Howard(23points and 15 rebounds) are having much better seasons than Dirk(21 points and 8 rebounds).

I'm italian, so please forget about my english...
My favourite player at the moment is absolutely Deron Williams! I think he's a step forward everybody for what concern game knowledge and comprension.
If I have to name what is the BEST player, I choose Tim Duncan, because he can play basket in a total way (I mean that he always does something usefull for the teams in every single action) and above all, he has won a lot and with teams which plays in different ways.
Finally I have to mention:
T-Mac, who is in my opinion the best under an offensive and technical point of view. He just miss some will to win (I don't know if it's the right translation, but I hope it's clear...) in order to overtop (?) the league.
LBJ. I don't like him very much, but 30 points, more than 7 rebs and 8 assists per game should mean something...

If you forget about the value of a player to a team, the championship rings, and the awards and just look at what the guy can do, then it's definitely Kobe. He could shoot 3s and jumpers, pass (though he doesn't do it very often, but if his teammates prove to be trustworthy, which what Bynum is doing right now, then he may draw the defense on him and average 10 apg), stuff the rim, make his FTs, rebound (for his position), and defend.

Baron Davis! He gets the Warriors ready for battle night in and night out. Possibly underrated, Baron has served as the Warriors heart and soul along with his running mates Monta, and Jackson.
B Diddy feels that everybody has a purpose on his teamHe is a true leader.

Tim Duncan - a leader by example on and off the court...unselfish when on the offensive end & lifts the play of others through his solid understanding of the nuanes of the game...actually like an assistant head coach on the floor.

Dirk Nowitzki, he can hit 3's all day long, he rebounds well and he plays at 110%, he also can be a big body down in the paint. He is a great player.

to be honest I'd have to say lebron right now, however if you look at overall stats it's probably KG, he can handle, shoot the mid range, rebound, block shots, get steals, dish assists everything! offensively obviously kobe, defensively I'd say Marcus Camby.
