Does His Computer Have A DVD Player (Drive)? If So, Does It Have A Program For Playing Movies? For Playing A DVD You Need BOTH. If This Is Not the Problem, Then I Would Say There Is a Compatibility Issue. Is The DVD A +R Or A -R +RW Or -RW All Of These Factors Can Affect How Or IF A Disc Will Play On A Certain Machine. Sometimes If You Record A +R OR A +RW Disc. They WON'T Play On Some Disc Players Even If They Say They Will Play That Type. Stick To -R Type Discs They Were The FIRST And Most Reliable(Compatible) Type.

you would be able to need an 80 pin cable, and the older desktops had 40 pin. you are able to tell if its 80 pin by potential of the colour (darker gray) and finer lines. some dvd gamers won't artwork without them. in case you have multiple cd/dvds, you need to set one to understand (DVD desire this spot, and positioned it on the top of the cable) and one to slave (positioned this on the midsection connection) by potential of switching the pins contained in the decrease back of the roms, in accordance to the markings or training on the ROM gadget. Your working device could %. up the motive force and set up it by potential of itself. (win 2k or xp) you are able to pass to the manufactures website and notice if there's a firmware replace for the particular variety you have offered besides, that can in lots of situations help whilst in basic terms some disks are actually not recongnized. CD-R is maximum elementary, yet some are very particular, jointly with CD+/-RW or CD+R The greater moderen the dvd gadget, the lots greater in all probability you will want the 80 pin connector, and the greater formats it is going to play with. whilst it comprises taking part in the recent disk, you will additionally ought to have a participant that performs the format. in order that which you be attentive to, new DVD Burners are low-value (40 to 50 greenbacks), so why pass used? solid success

Maybe your friend rom drive is only a CD Drive and not a DVD Drive.

If it says Compact Disc on the drive cover, then it's only a CD drive. It needs to say DVD for it to be able to read DVD disks.

Some DVD players aren't able to read copied DVDs
Nothing is wrong with the DVD, some players aren't programmed to read them to avoid bootlegging.

your friend first needs to have a dvd playback program, such as powerdvd.

second solution would be that he/she needs to upgrade his/her dvd drive drivers (haha). this second solution usually always fixes this problem
