the truck is a 1986 chevy s-10 and it has 14" tires it origanally had a 5-speed manual transmission in it then that went bad and the previous owner put a 4-speed in it and didn't change anything else and now the gearing is really off in 4th at like 3500 rpm i can barely get over 45 mph is there any way i can resolve this problem without changing the transmissionand if so what is the best ratio for this i might not get back to this before it expires so just e-mail me with ur answer please ken_steele2002@yahoo.com

you probably have a 4.10 gear ratio in that rearend, I would have the rearend gears changed to a 3.31 or 3.42 gear ratio and then get some 15" wheels and tires for the back and it should cruise pretty nice for you.

Get a differential out of a junked S-10 auto. Either that, or check out the auto trans rear end ratio and replace the differential.

put the right trans back in it most junk yards will have one shop around they should be cheap
