put it into mine so that I can partition it? A friend installed a brand new out of the box hard drive, but his cd-rom drive doesn't seem to be reading his drivers disk. I slid the disk into MY computer's cd-rom drive and it worked. So, is it possible to take out his hard drive and install it into my computer just so it could read the disk and also install an OS on it?

No matter how you do it, they will have to repair it with the disk, or install it with a disk.
So, lend them your player, or have them repair/buy a different one.
The reason you would have to repair is, if you install and format with your machine, it will not be totally compatible with theirs, even if the specs look identical, but it can be done if a repair is done after they put it back in their machine.

Yes, but DONT have it as master. Install it as an additional drive on your system as slave. If it is master, windows will freak out and try to boot from it. If you partition, you will lose all data on his hard drive, so be prepared to search the internet or all his disks for all the drivers for all the components once you put it back in.

Don't install the OS while it is in you computer. You could copy the CD to his hard drive, then run it from there once it is on his computer. You will have to make the hard drive bootable or run from a boot disk though probably.

Basically if you have not done this before it can be tricky.

If you were to install the OS while master drive on your computer, it might not work at all when you move it to his because there are too many hardware differences and windows freaks out. I have tried it once, and it didn't work. Copying the CD to the hard drive probably woudl be the best.

Yes, this is possible. You will just have to install all the drivers for the new machine (your friends). But yes, you can do this.

you can do so. nothing will happen its more like a usb. the thing is you should take care of handling the ports because they are sensitive and stuff like that.

if you partition it, you may lose all your files,
it's fixable, but you have to find someone who can do it for you.
