About a week ago, I was dilated to 1 fingertip, now I am 2 cm and my doctor said that the babies head it right there in my pelvis. My doctor thinks I will have the baby by next week, but I am just curious when I really will, because I heard that sometimes people sit at 2 cm for a long time...

Everyone's different and baby comes when ready. I was dilated from 6 months until induced 10 days overdue. Ah, but what fun that was! A low station and dilation suggest labor may be coming soon, however nobody here can tell you when JR is coming. The only one who can has a habit of not letting us in on His plans, so sit back, relax- and monitor for contractions.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Honestly, there is no way to make t hat prediction, it could be hours, it could be weeks. Personally, I was 1 cm dilated from 34 weeks on, at my 36 week appointment my dr. said he didn't think I would make for another 3 days( I was carrying twins), but after a lot of begging and pleading he agreed he would book my induction for 2 weeks from that day because the hospital didn't allow twins to carry past 38 weeks, I left with an induction date and a 99% assurance that I would have those babies within the week and wouldn't have to be induced. 2 weeks later I was still at 1 cm and was induced, had my daughters on day 2 and 3 of induction. Point being everyones different, but for your sake I hope it happens soon for you, I know how miserable and uncomfortable it is at the end. Congratulations!!

I wish I knew the answer to this because if I did I'd be rich. LOL.
Anyways, at 38 weeks I was 1-2 CM, and her head was right in my pelvic. I'm now 40 weeks 2 days and 3 CM, 50% effaced and her head is still in the pelvic.
So unfortunatly you could be walking around like that for up to another 4 weeks (depending on how far overdue your doctor/midwife will let you go).
Good luck.

unfortunately I was in your same position and then at 39-40wk appt I was 2-3cm 100% effaced etc.. I swear I told my husband if I heard the doctor tell me one more time that she didnt' think I'd make it through the weekend I'd scream because all it did is get my hopes up. I didnt end up having my baby until I was 5 days overdue. But everyone is different, I remember those last couple weeks seemed to last the longest though. Be sure and rest up your body will definately be needing the rest.

They told me that my baby was big as well. We even had a sonogram in the 8 or 9 month and they told me how chubby he was. He ended up coming a week early and was 7 lb 7oz! Not THAT big! Plus, an 8 lb (or even bigger) baby is still not that big. Women delivery babies this size successfully every day. I wouldn't worry but instead have some confidence in your doctor. They will do for you what is necessary. Congrats and good luck on your upcoming labor and delivery.

I was like that at my 36 wk checkup with my first kid, my son. He came out 3 days later while I was away for the weekend out of state. But the car ride may have helped that.
My daughter was like that too, but she came right on time. It could go either way.

I would think that if you have started dilating, and didn't go backards only forwards then things MAY start happening, but remember bubs will come when they are ready, Mine was engaged for weeks but went 2 weeks over! (yep you guess it a boy)
