I have an e-machine model T3112, it came with a 80GB ATA hard drive, I'm trying to install a sata 300 on my computer cause I wanna update my hard drive but still have the ATA drive. I have everything hook up right and my sata drive is not been detected. I try using disk management and the sata drive still not there. My computer spec. are 1.80GHz with 1.25GB ram. Running window xp

I went to BIOS and I didn't see anything about enable sata

since the drive is sata II (300) and the motherboard is probably sata I (150) there should be a jumper switch on the drive so it can run in sata I mode it's those metal pins sticking out by the connector for it, on the cover of the drive it might explain this

When you first boot your computer, you should be able to enter the bios. It usually says, hit something to enter setup. When you get in the bios, look around and be sure to tell it to auto detect your hard drives, and see if there are other appropriate options.

Plug it on the other port or use jumpers as slave if you are using it on the same cable, press F2 or DEL while startup and check all options and see whether SATA is activated.

you have to enable sata in the BIOS
