larger rear sprocket = more low end, you will reach the top speed faster, the bike will accelerate harder, but you will lose top end speed...

Smaller rear sprocket = less low end but gains in mid range and top. The bike wll accelerate slower, but the top speed will increase....

if you want top speed, best bet is to get a bigger front sprocket and smaller rear sprocket......

The previous owner of my DRZ400SM went up one in the front and down three in the back. It totally took the guts out of the bike. It had a higher tip speed, but you couldn't even shift into the top gear until you were going 65 or so. Even then, wind resistance made it so the engine didn't have any passing power at all. I went back to stock and it was perfect. I'm actually going to try going down one from stock in the front to lighten up the front tire. We will see how that goes. If you think you need a higher top speed, just go up one on the front sprocket and see what it does. Front sprockets are only $20.

Larger rear sprocket will result in faster acceleration and lower top speed. You want to go with a smaller rear sprocket to get more top speed.

Remember this "Torque get's you there, horse power keeps you there" Torque is the acceleration and horse power is the top end. Becareful about changing around too many teeth because sometimes you want to have a bigger frount sproket and smaller back sproket or vise versa. It depends on your bike, I wouldn't change anything, go ask a someone at your local dirtbike shop because you can get maximum top end speed by changing both sprokets. Or is you change too many teeth it can just make the bike slow. Sorry it wasn't very straight up. But it was answered by a girl.

It s better to get a smaller rear sprocket, but not too much.and see if the bike still climb hill with first gear easily.

Smaller rear and/or larger front = faster top speed (slow acceleration).
Larger rear and/or smaller front = faster acceleration (slower top speed).
