My name is Hayley and that was unusual I suppose when I was born. I don't mind unusual names but I can't stand normal names spelt in ridiculous ways because it just becomes confusing for the child. For example Haileigh will cause problems for a four year old learning to write their name and choosing Allannah over the simpler Alana seems pointless.
Unusual names may seem strange at first but it ends up working for the person, e.g. Kanye.

I prefer traditional names, but not those that are commonly used. I have no kids, but I get frustrated when children are named unusual names and get picked on a school. I know of a kid that was called, Q, and she got teased a lot.

I think that names can be unusual, but not too unusual. You need to use some discretion. For instance, if you name a child Tameleika or something, you are making it hard on them later in life when they have to spell things over the phone, fill in paperwork, or other such encounters with beauraucracy.
Then there are names like "rebel" and "Dragon". It's a kid, not a dog. Why do people insist on naming their kids such odd names? When they're young, they just want to fit in, not have a weird name and be ostracised and laughed at. That sucks.
IF you want a weird name, go for something like Elliot or Regina. Old fashioned is good. Naming kids after random nouns is just abuse.

I tend to go for more uncommonly used but familiar/traditional names.
my children are Eliza Jasmine and Isaac Matthew (matthew is common but that is his fathers middle name). I've never come across another Eliza her age (some old ladies yes...) and we don't know any other children named Isaac either.
I'd say I like uncommon names rather than unusual names. I still want people to know how to spell and say my kids names.
I really wouldn't want to name my child one of the top ten name for the year/s they were born. At least with the names they have, they are familiar to people but not so old fashioned that they are boring (like henry, george, william, Sarah, Jane etc...can't stand those names)

I like unusual names as long as there not out there. My name is very unique and I love that I never met anyone with my name. I never got made fun of, and I'm very successful so it never effected me. I'm glad I wasn't one of the ten million Nicoles and Jennifer's I went to school with.

Hm, I'm not so sure unusual as I am uncommon. I like older, vintage names. I haven't any children, being only thirteen but my name is Arianna.
One of my favorite names is Rhiannon, followed by Laken, Keira, and Rosalie.

Unusual here.... my daughters name is 'Jiordane'. I can't imagine her name being anything else and she seems to like her name too. If I have a boy he will be named Zeth.

I like exotic names as it makes them say "Jimmy who?" more times than anyone else.
If I really had kids I would use names that no one has ever heard of any more or use those from forgotten lore.
