Don't know what your degree is in. The best bet probably would be to work at a station part-time. If you are willing to work odd hours for peanuts, you might be able to find something. Then once you get in, you can show your ability -- perhaps by filling in as a host on someone's weekend shift.

I did that job for a few years, and you should know that the pay is pretty low and it's not exactly an intellectual exercise. But -- it has its fun days. So good luck.

I had that job for a few years some time ago. For starters, remember that you have to be good on radio. Good use of the language, professional manner, good voice, etc. Knowing sports generally isn't enough. Then again, you do have to know sports. These days, a strong point of view is a must, and the ability to present an argument well is a major plus. In education, a college degree will help. And you need to work your way up, probably starting at a tiny station and moving up the food chain. I'm glad I did it for a while, but I can't imagine going back to it again. Too much heat and not enough light these days.

It would help if you took a journalism class--the University of Syracuse has a good one--or try to land an internship at a radio station. You may luck out.
