Jamie Lynn just confirmed that she is pregnant at 16 years old. She is star of the hit Nickelodeon show "Zoey 101" If they were to fire her, would that be sex discrimination based on pregnancy? Could she bring a lawsuit against them for unlawfully firing her? I don't think any girl/woman should be fired based on pregnancy!

It totally depends on what her contract says. If there is some kind of morality or image clause in the contract they may have the legal prerogative to fire her.

BTW - Did you realize that she is a minor child? Does it not shock you that someone got this child pregnant? I probably shouldn't be, but I'm just a little floored that at 16 she is coming out with this information like it's no big deal. Call me old fashioned, whatever. I know that kids this age (and younger) get pregnant everyday, but do they need to advertise it like its something that we should applaud???

I guess being discrete and having any sense of morality is not what is expected with the Spears family or anyone in Hollywood for that matter.

Ahh, heck YES!!.... Now let's put this into perspective. Where do you think these Spears girls learned their high moral values and family traditions? If you don't think that the second thing this girl though of was "Gee, how much could I make on this if they fire me? you have never dated a Southern bimbette... I have no doubt she is claiming she did no know how this could happen. Don't get me wrong the South is loaded with some of the most beautiful and brightest girls in the country, (just not them Spears girlz). I certainly don't remember ever hearing Britney or Jamie mention where they might like to attend college. Let's just hope Nickleodeon is smart enough to sever ties with this girl before her boyfriend does. This is a bad situation that is only going to get worse for this guy... And if you want to know what Jamie Lynn will be like as a mother Just look at Britney. Remember, the apple does not fall far from the tree. This pair has certainly turned out to be some of the finest role models for young girls I can remember since... Oh, perhaps Anna Nichole.

Yes, she could be fired. Most likely for a contract violation. She could not bring a lawsuit against them because of the contract with Nickleodeon. Part of a show business contract often stipulates a certain code of behavior or image, especially when one is a role model for other children.

I DO think Jamie Lynn Spears should be fired. She made a bad decision and there are many girls who looked up to her, and unfortunatly her sister. Would you want YOUR daughter looking up to girls like that? I think not.

Most of the time, firing because of pregnancy would be sex discrimination. However, here it all depends on her contract. She could have a morality clause in her contract, which as I understand it, basically states that anything that she does that gives her an immoral image could subject her to losing her contract. This would probably be true for her contract, given the type of show she is starring in and the network she's on.

Actually, Zoey 101 filmed their final episode already, set to be released in January, so Nickelodeon probably won't offer her a new show, that's all. I'd say good timing for both her and the studio. I think getting released early from her contract is the least of her concerns though.

Most likely she signed a morality contract or something similar before working with Nick - as much as I agree that a girl/woman should not ever be fired based on pregnancy, this is different. Little girls and boys watch Nick and she is a role model.

That would all depend on her contract. It's not like she has a normal full time job. She has a contract with the network. Whenever that contract expires, the network can simply decide not to renew it.

Either way, the Spears family has yet another reason to be ashamed...

not necessarily....there are often clauses in stars contracts stating that they cannot smear their reputations b/c of how that might affect the show. Not to mention, this is a kids show...what are the parents of kids watching supposed to tell their children about little zoey getting a big belly.....not good for Nickelodian at all.

She should be fired based on her breach of contract. She is unable to perform the role that they hired her for. Her character is not a pregnant unwed teen.

It's a perfectly legal reason to let her go.

Yes, it would be illegal for them to fire her, unless there was some clause in her contract that she had broken by getting pregnant. But most likely she will be able to keep her job.
