I say forget the eyeliner. Eyeliner is pretty obvious and it sounds like you want an easy, inconspicuous look. I would reccomend curling your eyelashes and applying either Lancome Definicils or Cover Girl Lashexact. Because you have brown hair, black will make your eyes stand out without looking trashy. Another option is to buy a lash gloss, which is essentially clear mascara, to achieve volume and length without color.

lightly outline your eyes with black or brown eyeliner (depending on the colour of your eyelashes, if your eyelashes are dark use black, if they are light use brown). I would stick with black though. A thin line of mascara on the top and bottom wont be able to be seen and will look clean. Also curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler and put a coat of clear mascara on top. You could also put a very natural coloured eyeshadow (skin tone colors, pale pink, light brown etc. ) on your eyelid, but that may be too much, as you want it to look like your not wearing makeup..

Try a little mascara and some very light eye shadow which complements your eye color. With eye shadow you should go very easy and blend it in carefully so that it's hard to detect. And mascara should be applied very sparingly otherwise you'll look like a Vegas showgirl which is not what you want of course. Experiment a little.

if your eyelashes are already curly never mind this answer but if they aren't curl your lashes and then run a black mascara on them...basically about 1 or 2 strokes.
just make sure your eyelashes are still curled and that it stands out..if you still can't see a difference run a black eyeliner on the upper rim of your eye lid not the line right above your eyelashes but the rim inside your eye...try not to poke yourself in the eyeball!
the natural look is and will always be in so just curlying your eyelashes makes a huge difference!!!

the best thing is using eyeliner on the top lid from the center of your eye over to the outside corner. then i normally run my finger over it to bring it down towards the lashline. then use some mascara, even just one coat
it'll bring out your eyes the best. makes them very defined.
and i understand i don't wear make up everyday, but i do like to do this. it's very simple and quick. i dont wear masacar on the bottom lashes i can't make it look right. and i hate to wear foundation. i normally finish it off with some chapstick :)

line your eyes with a dark purple eyeliner, purple really brings out the brown in your eyes. eyelash curler (if your lashes aren't curled already) and 1-2 coats of mascara makes a world of difference.
to open up your eyes a bit more, you can dab just a tiny bit of white/pale shimmer eye shadow right in the very inner corner of ur eye (between the tear duct and the bridge of ur nose).

lol. my advice is to use brown eyeliner, or mascara rather than black. black is Very noticeable to everyone. Brown mascara wil bring out your eye lashes without looking like you have on too many coats of it. Or if you don't like mascara, my favorite thing id liquid brown eye liner. A very thin line along your top lashes looks pretty ans subtle. O and if you pluck your brows, that brings a natural beauty to your face

Put on eye liner, or you can put on a dark eye shadow, but using a slanted brush. So you can put just a thin line right above your eye....i do it all the time and you cant tell that i wear that much makeup.

The best thing to define your eyes without looking overdone is using eyeliner and mascara. If you feel that wearing black is too dramatic for you, try using a dark brown.
Also, try rimming your upper and lower eye. If that is too much, just do the upper.
