Around my ovulation time, two weeks ago, I had this white kindof stretchy substance that i noticed after sex. Any one else had this? I never have it anyother time. Is this a sign of ovulation?

Hi there!

Did you notice the discharge right after sex? If so, it could have been semen; however, another stretchy substance is a sign of ovulation and is the best time to have sex (if you're trying to conceive)! If you noticed that discharge that same day before and after intercourse, odds are, you’re pregnant – CONGRATS! =)

Many reference books will tell you ovulation occurs on day 14, however, that is just not true. When I wanted to get pregnant, I charted my cycle by taking my temperature every morning and paid attention to discharge patterns. I found out that I don’t ovulated until 18 - 20 days into my cycle..

The easiest way to watch for ovulation is through your discharge patterns. The fist sign is a sticky rubber cement type of discharge that can ball up between your fingers. A day or two later you’ll see a lotion type of discharge that can even be white like lotion (but sometimes clear), then the most fertile day is when you experience the “egg white” discharge that is long and sticky – if you put it between your fingers, you will be able to stretch it at least 2 inches. If you’re trying to get pregnant, that’s the day to have sex! That discharge will carry the semen directly up your uterus, into your fallopian tubes where it will meet the egg your ovaries just released! My husband and I followed this pattern, and now we have a beautiful healthy little girl! =)

not a woman, but I can answer. Ovulation and Orgasm are 100%, entirely seperate things. not at all the same. Orgasms happen from sexual stimulation. Ovulation is a reproductive function that happens on its own at (when everything is working right and is left to its natural course) approximately once per month. I am not sure what "the same" you mean. they are entirely different and the only thing they have in common is what part of the body they are associated with. edit: theres not really any way to describe orgasm. even woman to woman (I've read others try) theres just no way to put it into words. heres how you solve the issue. gonna put this as un-creepy, objective and scientific as I can. take a shower, and relax, and get yourself feeling good and clean and relaxed. lock the door(or otherwise make sure you won't get interrupted), and get comfy in bed. naked or not or whatver makes you comfortable. then, close your eyes, take your hand and explore yourself down there. rub around, feel what you've got. you'll probably quickly stumble upon a spot or two that feel especially good when you rub there. rub there. and keep doing it. go with whatever your instincts tell you for rythym or where to put your fingers or how to rub. keep going until you feel a building up sensation. then keep going on that part that makes the building up happen. then keep going until you can't contain it anymore and that building up part explodes. try not to scream too loud if there are other people in the house. once you've done this, you will not be confused anymore. edit: no, the "watery secretion" is not like that. by "watery secretion" I suspect you mean either lubrication from being aroused, or you mean what is commonly called "squirting" or "female ejaculation". (be ready for that possibility too, its not pee, but it can be surprising) Ovulation is basically... ok, you have your ovaries in there, right? they are little almond shaped lumps of soft tissue. when you ovulate, a little bubble appears on one, and swells up a little, then pops, releasing an egg, that goes into the fallopian tube, and down into the uterus. it is then washed away with the lining of the uterus when you have a period.

Fertility signals
Knowing your own body and being able to tell when you are fertile / ovulating is an important skill and one that every woman should have.

The fact is, there are only certain times in a woman's cycle when she is fertile or ovulating and can get pregnant. So it pays off to know when those times are.

Your body will give you clear clues and signals as to when fertility is approaching and occurring.

A brief note, this system of observing fertility changes has nothing to do with the rhythm method. The rhythm method does not use bodily signals and is often very unreliable due to factors like the ignorance of the natal lunar phase, sickness, stress etc. If you are simply counting days and guessing when you should be fertile, this could be slowing down your bid to conceive.

A woman is fertile when she is ovulating and ovulation usually occurs mid cycle. In fact, ovulation almost always occurs 14 days before the next bleed. Sometimes women do experience a longer or shorter post ovulatory phase (than 14 days) but this usually indicates that there is a hormonal imbalance.

Ovulation occurs 14 days before next bleed this is the rule. And the fertile window can start a few days before that. See diagram

Spontaneous ovulation can also occur during your natal lunar phase.

The table below provides a rough description of the very real physical and emotional symptoms that you can observe throughout your menstrual cycle. It is a brief guide that I have put together from my own observation.

These are some of the signals that you can observe and note down on your Personal Charting System. The time frame is very approximate, so don't worry if your cycle is not the same - everyone is individual.

Week 1

From first day of bleeding Bleeding and the various symptoms felt during this part of the cycle varies with the individual, ranging from, cramping, back ache, hollow feeling inside vagina or the sensation that your innards will fall out to no ill effects at all.

At the post bleeding phase there is generally an increase in physical energy and vitality.

The individual is more outgoing and sociable. Sleep patterns and appetite return to normal.

Vaginal mucus is dry or absent .
Week 2 As ovulation approaches cervical mucus become wetter, slippery, white (whatever is your individual pattern.)
Ovulation

Day 14 approximately
Mucus is very wet and slippery, easily allowing penetration of sperm. Other symptoms may include tender breasts, mood swings, increase in libido, cramps, break through bleeding, desire to be with your partner.

Week 3

After Ovulation moving into pre-menstrual phase
Mucus production slows, becomes drier and thicker . Moods balance out again.
Week 4

Pre-menstrual phase
Pre-menstrual symptoms kick in, which depending upon you, range from bloating, cramps, headaches, mood swings, food cravings, and insomnia. Energy levels decrease, libido may increase. Desire for solitude increases as does intuitive ability.

The table above is not the definitive guide, and each cycle may not be the same, it all depends on how you are and what's going on in your life.

When you observe your body you will start to see a very clear pattern of what happens in your body during your menstrual cycle.

The main fertility indicators to look for are:

Cervical mucus
Bodily symptoms - that is moods, aches, libido, appetite, sleep patterns
Basal Temperature

Depending on how close after sex it was, it could have been semen.

Semen and Ovulation mucas are very similar.
