I bought a product called Method Window Wash from Sainsburys. You have to buy the blue lint free cloth as well and they work like magic! I have big picture windows and was tearing my hair out until I tried this stuff.
Failing that - white vinegar and newspaper work pretty well.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

I'm sure most people will tell to use newspaper and vinegar and they are absolutely correct ; to clean all dirt and dust.
To have clear streak-free or as you called it without smearing, I use dry microfiber cloth. It will give you a clear and sparkling windows.
You can also use microfiber cloth to clean any glass or mirrors ie. glass coffee table, dining tables, glass top stove/burner, shower cubicle, dresser mirror for streak-free effect.
Basically, you can use microfiber cloth for any surfaces. You can use it dry or damp and need no detergent.

There is this foaming spray to clean glass. Im sorry i forget what it is called, but its in a can and its thick white foam. All you do it spray it on glass and leave it there. It dries on its own and its streak free!!! Its the best thing ive ever used. and it works on glasses as well.

Use a good product, such as Windex. Wipe them with clean coffee filters-works really well. I used to work at a restaurant and that is how we did it there.

Use a squeegee - the streaks you see are usually from the cloth or paper you are using to wipe the window.
