If so, what do you most like to see?

While I directed our children's ministry (AWANA) I made it a point to take our 3 -4 year olds (Cubbies) to the Zoo on the first Saturday of each May...for 10 years. We had 2 - 4 adults (mostly the ministry leaders, and MAYBE a parent or two...although I encouraged the parents to stay home) with the group. I had so much fun with those kids, who for the most part, had never been to the zoo and seen live animals close up. Our first. and almost favorite stop, were the monkeys. We spent more time with them than any other single animal group.
I remember one little girl (4) who latched on to me (mom and dad stayed home) and pointed out all the BOY animals to me She would loudly exclaim, "Look that elephant has a penis! He's a boy!" Very astute little girl.
This past summer I took my grand twins (32 months old) to the Oregon Zoo. I think my grand son's favorite was the Penguin exhibit. When he saw them, he started dancing and calling out "MAMBO!"

I have not been to the Zoo in years. We do have a zoo here in Sacramento, but I have only been once. I did not like the way the animals were exhibited. It was not natural. Just cages with animals. I was born on San Francisco, and used to go to the zoo all the time, and it was FREE then. Now they charge you
big bucks. The best Zoo I was ever at was the San Diego Zoo, with natural looking exhibits for the animals.
My favorites are the big cats and the gorillas and if they have them the polar bears.

I used to enjoy it when I lived close to the zoo in St. Louis. I spent a lot of hours walking around. It's a pretty spectacular place and a great place to walk and think. The zoo where I live now is so small and expensive and the animals look so cramped altho' I understand it's getting better.
Was there anything better than the lion that was always in the tree? Or the old chimp that would eventually spit on the crowd? Or the jaguar that would spritz the crowd just every so often? And then there was that nasty little white creature, long ago. All of my favorites are gone except the jaguar and she probably is now. It was so cool to watch the animals get even. But that lioness with her view. . .that was best of all.

Yes I do. The atmosphere is relaxed, the children are all smiles and excitement and it gives people the opportunity to see and learn about animals they'd probably not get the chance to see were it not for the zoo.
Zoo's contribute to education. They take excellent care of the animals and they are responsible for helping stop the extinction of many species as well.
Most zoo staff develop very good relationships with the animals as well, so on occassion a staff member may take you and your child on a special tour where they can tell you inside facts as well. It's just lovely to watch and listen to the comments and reactions of the kids at the zoo, and to take the time to read to your own children all the various facts posted about each animal. Plus there's cotton candy.
I most like to see the gorillas. I once spent an hour nose to nose(with the glass in between) with a gorilla, he and I had a staring contest. But it many ways it seemed more like he was just feeling attached to me somehow..hmmmm. must have been the family resemblance thing.

I really do enjoy going and will be able to go in the spring since I've had my knee surgery. There is a wonderful zoo in Houston where the animals are not all cooped up in little cages. They are free in their own big areas. I like the apes, birds, zebras ( my favorite animal. I never get over being awed by their beautiful markings. I read that no two are ever marked the same. I'm looking forward to visiting with my grandchildren again. Good questions tonight again Wickwire.

I haven't been to the zoo in many years. Not since I was in the service and stationed in San Diego. When I was there I would go to the San Diego Zoo almost every day. There was so much to learn, so much to see and experience. It was a fascinating place then and I am sure it is even more fascinating today. Great question.

I've been to zoos I really enjoy, San Diego was one of them, also Sea World was great. I loved the penguins, and also the walruses and sea lions. I also love the birds. And I even like the snakes.

Sad to say, but if it wasn't for the zoos, some of the animals would be extinct, and that would be a tragic loss.

Yes we live about a mile from ur zoo. We get a family pass each year. I use it often as a safe place to take the grandchildren to walk for exercise. Our favorite spot is the Lorikeet center. We purchase cups of nectar and let the Lorikeets sit on us and drink the nectar. It is a big hit with the children and a hands on experience.
