Nothing. My family has a Christmas savings account, which accumulated almost $700, which we used for presents.

Not too far. About $60 this year. When the credit card bills hit, I might have $300 to pay off. I had one or two gifts from last summer, but most I got recently. Needless to say, no one is getting a big HDTV or a new laptop. And I even got a small gift for my unemployed son to give to my ex-wife.

It didn't, I don't spend money I don't have and can't afford. It's not about getting the lasting in technology or giving something to a friend that is better than what a co-worker or a friend of them has, it's about giving them something that has a special meaning to them...like writing a story about them, giving them a gift certificate for a home cooked meal, baking cookies...none of these things cost a lot but convey a lot of care and love in them...that is what Christmas is about.

I cant go into debt- I have an income the size of a hobo- so I make stuff for all that I love and like. they never complain and they say that they 'love' my gifts and stuff. It makes me feel good and I dig the rush of giving! I've got great gift ideas if you need any.
