Are today's girl's smarter than boys?

I've read several reports indicating that girls are scoring higher in secondary and post secondary education. They're also getting into college at higher rates (i think it's 51% girls to 49% boys right now). Boys on the other hand are going in the opposite direction. Worse scores, lower admissions into school.

Is there something causing this trend, several things, or are girls just getting smarter?

You are misinformed about the scores. Boys are still outscoring girls in both the Math and Verbal sections of the SAT. Girls are closing the gap on the math portion -- but the verbal gap is widening. See the link below for more details.

You are right that more girls are going to college. 51% vs 49% is about right -- but may not be statistically significant. Any number of reasons could explain this. I suspect that it is partly due to the fact that there is still a wide gap in pay between uneducated men and uneducated women,

I wrote this in another similar post a while back and figured it could work here too.

I believe that there are a lot more girls going to college than guys because of the social rewards involved, with educational reasons being a close second. I mean when you think about it, if you have an 18 year old girl who's about to graduate high school, and all of a sudden she's now given a legitimate chance to move away from her parents house for several years, live in her own place (maybe with roomates too), see whoever she wants to be with, go to clubs, parties, social places like coffee shops and reading places with her friends, in other words basically get the chance to do whatever she wants whenever she wants without her parents being any wiser, and she'll be getting an education on the side to boot, how can any girl honestly say no this opportunity. All the better if her parents are paying for all of this too. It'll be almost like a punishment to keep the girl away from college nowadays.

So yeah, girls are definitely more smarter than guys in the sense that they recognize a good opportunity when they see one, all the more so when they'll be rewarded with a good career because of their degree. Guys don't really think that way. They want fast money now, and most guys would rather take a good paying job now rather than wait.

As a girl, I believe that girls and boys are of equal intelligence, but while girls have a knack for accuracy, boys are good with speed. Sometimes boys just rush through things, are too lazy to do extra credit, and are like to be more competitive without just focusing on the game. Girls however, will take there own sweet time using the best choice of thesaurus words and double checking their homework. Plus they will do extra credit even though they already have a 110% in the class. (boys like to have the luxury of saying they don't have to do this extra credit)Girls are also not as competitive and tend to be a little more focused.

See, its not an intelligence thing, its just the way people function. The environment in which schools are structured are just favorable to the ways that girls work. Think of it this way, If you take Albert Einstein and make him take the SAT's, he could know every answer, but if he doesn't fill in the bubbles, he won't get a good score.

The real issue is that schools are more geared towards females today than in the past.
Females respond better to the type of environment that schools have today.
Whenever you favor men or women, one sex succeeds at the expense of the other.
