The thing is, she's bringing her by at about 7 in the morning tomorrow. Clinic doesn't open up until 8:30. Hesitate to call the hospital because last week I was bleeding clots and they told me to stay at home and wait until the next morning to come in. Turned out I was having a threatened abortion.. SO.. I'd just like to know what ya'll know about it and if lifting should be safe.

I know I have placenta previa because I had serious bleeding last weekend. In the emergency room they treated it as a threatened abortion. My OB said it was placenta previa. My placenta was too close to my uterus on my ultrasound. They saw it on an ultrasound. and YES it is possible. Look it up on any website about placenta previa if you don't believe me.

I don't know why anyone would tell you that you have placenta previa at 14 weeks. Many placentas are quite low at that stage of gestation, and most will "migrate" to a normal position. Even if the placenta was seen to be over your cervix, the cervix is quite long, very closed and the position of the placenta should not be a problem right now as far as lifting. Your uterus is barely past your pelvic brim at this stage, and since you use your abdominal muscles to lift, I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Now, since you've had some bleeding though, it would be better to play it safe and not care for the child...you can't really avoid lifting a small child, after all.

You can't have placenta previa at 14 weeks. It can not be diagnosed until the 3rd trimester, which is 27 weeks. They can tell you that the placenta is low, or that you are at risk for it, but this early your uterus is not big enough to have that diagnosis yet, because over 95% of the time the placenta will be pulled up and out of the way by the 3rd trimester when the uterus is much bigger. I had placenta previa with my daughter, and I was not allowed to take stairs, or lift anything slightly heavy, not even a laundry basket full of clothes.

*I know the placenta can be on your cervix at 14 weeks, mine was and I bled too. I met with a specialist who says the actual diagnosis referes to a placenta that is on the cervix in the last trimester, which starts at 27 weeks. I had a scan at 27 weeks which showed no change, which means I was one of the 5%, and then the actual dignosis was given. He said many doctors will call it that prior to this, but it's not a true diagnosis. Either way the same restrictions are placed on you, so "No", dont lift the child, or you could tear your placenta and abrupt. Bed rest is assigned to women who receive the actual diagnosis at the start of the 3rd trimester. I have worked with premies born because of this condition, because the placenta began to abrupt. Luckily I made it to 38 weeks with my daughter, usually not the case, but somehow I did it.

Treatment for placenta previa depends on how much you are bleeding and whether your fetus is mature enough to survive early delivery. Providing that you and your fetus are stable, you can be closely monitored until the baby can be safely delivered. You should not lift anything heavier than your purse, because it can cause sudden movement of the placenta and bleeding from moderate to severe.

When your fetus is mature enough, or if too much bleeding is endangering you or your fetus, your baby will be delivered. Because disturbing the placenta with a vaginal delivery can cause severe placental bleeding, a cesarean section is always used when placenta previa is present.

I don't know how far along you are into your pregnancy, but from what I've read you should avoid picking her up. Heavy lifting and straining could cause you to bleed. You could call your doctor in the morning and get advice, but try just sitting with the child instead of carrying her that way there is no chance of you bleeding and having complications. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

i wouldn't lift her if I were you, the fact that you were having problems before kinda clarifys things a bit.... I would suggest that you tell the mother that you are on doctors orders not to lift things, although you haven't been put on those order yet.... personally i think you should have been.... Good luck!
