The W124 chassis is one of the most reliable cars ever made! Poo, poo to those that said that's high mileage and it will cost you a bundle to keep running. Go on youtube and search for a video from topgear. They tried destroying the car by setting it on fire, bombing it with a grenade, flooding it, crashing it.... to NO AVAIL! The thing just wouldn't die. That inline six is just as good as any diesel out there. It does need a timing chain cover every now and then. The parts are still widely available and very cheap! I get my parts at autohaus AZ. You can find their site here: http://www.autohausaz.com
They have saved me a ton of money by selling me parts @ 5% over wholesale. These cars are also very easy to work on. Can't think of much that an owner can't do on the car and with simple tools.
I've had several of these cars go over 250,000 and are still running today. Only reason I got rid of it was for a newer style (w210).
These cars are built like a tank. If it is in good condition and drives well, then buy it. The price is a bit high, but is to be expected from a Jaguar dealer. They probably gave the guy $1500 for it. So, you should be able to negotiate a better deal. If not, make sure they show you all the documents related to them checking out the car. This should include a compression test. If for some reason they cannot provide you with these results, then walk away. There are plenty of these W124 chassis cars out there to purchase.

If the car was maintained really well, it should be fine. The price seems OK.
I've owned several Mercedes cars with many more miles and had no real problems with them, but I did took care of them (all services were done on time, all small problems fixed right away and so on.)
As with any used car, you will have some problems, but it's normal and should be expected. Of course, have it checked by a good Mercedes mechanic before you buy. If the seller doesn't want you to have it checked by YOUR mechanic, you do not want this car.

ok price. high miles. but mercedes can go for a long time, up to 200k and beyond. doesn't matter the dealer, not really, as long as you get along with them and they don't pressure you.

Don't buy a diesel. There hell on the wallet. Than again any Mercedes with that many miles is going to cost a lot to keep running.
