Because hype and fear sell magazines and air-time. In the 80's they said that the ozone layer was going to dissolve and all of us would have skin cancer by 2000. In the 90's they were saying that the rainforests were going to be all gone today. And now, the news media is saying that global warming is going to be the doom of humanity. How much are you willing to bet that the latest hype is nothing more than just that?

I was around at the time and I don't remember hearing that. I just heard concerns about the continuing dependency on non-renewable fossil fuels and the Middle Eastern oil embargo. It's a real shame we have gotten so dependent on the oil from that region of the world. In the past, this country was largely self-sufficient. If it weren't for oil, I doubt anybody would even care about the Middle East and we certainly wouldn't have any troops in Iraq.

I've never heard that we were about to run out at any point soon.
The truth is that no one is sure how much oil is left. The catch is, the less there is, the harder it is to get out of the ground. And supposedly we're about at the halfway point, when it starts to get tougher.

Just messing up with science and mathematics.
Without being aware of our creator of heaven and earth.
While living human kind were surviving and running on batteries with shorten life-cycles that could not keep them burning alight in time.
Living in misery with emptiness at loss with burning flame of love.
That runs out in time before oil runs out.
Luke 9.55-56
The blunders and slip-ups with human errors getting kick on the butts as casualty of the dead Mummy in not worshiping God in climbing up the coconut trees and still look green and primitive with lost sense of direction and purpose of life.
Luke 6.39-40,41-45,46-49
What do you think?

The reason is, they didn't consider the time-honored principle: NECESSITY IS THE MOTHER OF INVENTION. As petroleum became harder to extract, HUMANS figured out new ways to extract it more efficiently.
