i breast fed both of mine and yes you need to burp her, there will be times that she wont burp but try anyways, you can also lay her on her side and pat her back that way to you don't have to wake her to burp her,you can lay her on her tummy also and rub her back in a circle motion and when she burps put her on her side or back then she can sleep for as long as she likes.

I had the same problem. It depends on the age of the baby. If it's an older baby the burp will come out on it's own. If it's still a newborn, burping is really necessary- otherwise you'll end up with gas pains later that will cause more problems than waking them up would.

my son is my first, and so far only baby, he's 7 month old now, and every time he falls asleep while drinking milk i don't wake him or burp him, and so far so good, he doesn't cry unless he's hungry or needs to be changed ... or bored, but other then that he doesn't have tummy aches or anything... so i don't think it's too big of a deal to burp every time , now while he is awake and after eating i would burp him, of course, but patting the back never worked for us, i was always afraid that i could be patting to hard or on a wrong spot.. so i found out that sitting him up on my knee and bouncing him up and down would get him to burp much faster and easily.. hope this helps
p.s. besides if you are breast feeding the air intake is minimal vs. bottle ... also there are bottles that minimize the amount of air to be swallowed, so there are thing you can do to prevent your baby swallowing too much air
here is a site that talks about all kinds of different baby bottles and their benifits : http://babiestoday.com/resources/articles/bestbottle.htm

You don't have to wake her. I used to just put my baby on my shoulder and pat her back for a little while and she would stay asleep. Once she was old enough and didn't need to be burped anymore then I would lay her down without burping her.

Don't feel bad because it's better to prevent gas anyway. Then she really will wake up. But... it is true that breastfed babies don't take in as much air as bottlefed babies. My newborn stays asleep while burping. If your baby doesn't burp within 30 seconds of you trying then she probably doesn't need to at all and you can just lay her down. Hope this helps! :o)

Does she sleep for a reasonable amount of time, or does she fuss? Does she spit up more in her sleep if you don't burp her?
Some breastfed babies never really need to be burped.
As long as she isn't waking up with stomach pain she's FINE. Let her sleep.

fairly some time the toddler won't burp after breastfeeding. in comparison to bottle feeding, the toddler takes his/her time whilst eating from the breast (till he/she grow to be crying previous to the feeding) and as a result swallowing much less air to none. the reason of spit united statescould be that ur toddler does not be attentive to whilst to surrender eating yet and beverages too lots, considering that toddler's abdomen does not expand yet, there is in basic terms lots that would slot in there and the rest comes decrease back up. and whilst breastfeeding, fairly some situations the toddler retains sucking on the nipple regardless of if there is not greater milk left or in the event that they are achieved yet milk nevertheless left, and finally end up overeating, bc he/she purely reveals ur breast very soothing and use it as a pacifier fairly some situations.

If she's really sleeping, she won't wake up when you burp her. I find at night, if I can't get my son to burp, shortly after I put him in his his bassinet he gets hiccups and that sure wakes him up. Then I'm back to square one!

my son does the same thing.
i however just sit him up and attempt to burp him anyway. if he is in a i refuse to burp mood, he'll stay alseep. you should at least try to burp her even if nothing happens. you dont want air to be traped in her tiny tummy and later have her scream in pain or develop colic.
