Cheap can be a relative term for any car, but you certainly can find BMWs much, much less then the cost to drive a new one off the lot. I picked up an M3 for $10k LESS then Bluebook so you just have to do your homework.
I recommend checking ebay (even if you don't buy from out of state it's a great barometer for pricing)
Also check carmax.com and do a nationwide search. Lots of great deals there.
If you're willing to fly to anytown USA to see a car then these two places are your best bets in my opinion.

If you buy a "cheap" BMW then expect EXPENSIVE problems. BMW's are not cheap cars to maintain, most parts have to be bought at a dealer and since i suppose you cant afford a newer one in good shape try looking for a car that's reliable not just the name.

sure it would be achieveable - yet no longer continuously inexpensive. as quickly as the airways have offered their 'inexpensive seats', they now no longer % any passengers on the airplane to make a earnings, so the cost easily is going UP, with the belief being that if somebody needs to get on a flight they're going to pay extra.

if you can only afford a 'cheap' bmw then you shouldnt purchase one in the first place.
they cost a lot of money to maintain.
