Why do women carry purses instead of wallets like men do?

Many women's clothes do not have a spot for a wallet. And when they do have pockets they are too shallow or too small.

Also guys tend not to care as much about how they look. So a bulging wallet in a pants pocket is OK in their eyes. Needless to say it just would not look right with those tight pants, dresses or skirts.

And we do have lots to carry around. Besides cash, credit cards and license, there is the cell phone, tissues, pads, keys, glasses, lipstick, brush, hairclips, pen, notepad, something to read in case I end up waiting somewhere....

Men originally had to keep their hands free for their weapons so women took on the responsibility of carrying stuff and children. The men were, after all, the protectors. The original wallets were the size of bags and were carried by non-fighting men and priests. They've shrunk down over the centuries to what men carry today. These are small and fairly easily hidden because men still are more likely to carry more money than women. Women still need to carry things for themselves, their children, and their husbands so they carry purses. For a while women's fashions did not feature pockets and the purses were larger. These days women DO have pockets and some women have opted for wallets because (1) they aren't carrying things for children or husbands and (2) they might have to protect themselves.

That's it! Actually, that's not all of it. It's kind of like a security blanket for some of us, plus you can put any old junk in there. Instead of asking WHY, you might consider asking WHAT we carry around with us. Once I had 8 pairs of reading glasses and a pair of sun glasses in my purse. DId you know that the men in Uzbekistan also carry something like a purse? Seriously. It's because their money is so worthless that they probably have to carry it in a suitcase in order to buy a stereo or TV.

We have too much stuff to fit in a wallet... i've got make-up, keys, a cell phone, my camera, an ipod, tampons, pens, a note pad, medicine AND a wallet in my purse...

I'd like to see a a guy who can fit all that into a wallet :P

oh, and purses are prettier :)

2. some girls like to have makeup with them at all times for touch ups
3. makes it easier to carry car keys, cell phone, lipsticks at the same time when we don't have pockets.

Because women like to carry their entire life in their purse. They also got to be prepared. I carry a book in mine. Why you ask? Well, what if I get bored. What am I to do??? Oh look, Ive got a book in my purse. I just pull it out and read. See, men don't think about things like that.

Why don't men carry purses like women do?

Well sonny, men and women aren't the same. In fact, they are very different! Different habits, needs, etc. I like to carry my purse because putting things in my pockets bugs the heck out of me. Who wants a lumpy looking butt? Not me!

i only carry a purse because my wallet is much bigger than a man's wallet, and most of my clothing does not have any pockets...so a purse is more convenient.

i personally hate shelping a purse around.

haha we carry a lot of unecessary stuff like makeup, mirrors, gum, food, mints, wallet, ipods, and papers, cell, pics, etc ... and tampons that too

but purses are nice and they have a variety of styles/ fashion to acessorize your outfit which is the main reason well at least for me
