It could be the quality of denim used, the stitching, seams of the jeans, and of course the name which is essential to price.
You are right $200 on jeans is pricey for me.
If they are worth this much now, will they be worth $500 30 years from now?

I did a yahoo search 'proper fitting jeans' and found the sites I listed below. It sums up and answers your questions, or at least, I hope it does.
Turns out it's the washing of the fabric that costs more than the cutting, sewing and finishing of the product. I was surprised to learn that. Of course, spinning of yarns for the denim and weight of the fabric is next cost that plays into the price of a pair of jeans. Then, the designer gets their piece of the costs, too.
Hope this helps you find the proper cut and fit for your body shape and you enjoy your next pair of jeans.

on the surface, yes all the jeans look the same. I never pay more than 100 for jeans myself. But I notice that when I do pay more they generally last longer and fit me better. my brother buys most of his jeans at old navy, and has to buy new ones all the time because they wear out fast. The material is thinner and gets holes in it. I wear jeans almost daily, and I pretty much never buy new jeans because they fall apart. though when I but cheaper jeans they do lose their color faster and fall apart.

personally I don't give a *** about these things, but there is a difference. the fabric is of higher quality and well last longer. the stitching is better, and the jeans will fit better.

All jeans are made in China for a few dollars. When they ship it to America, thats when our country rips us off.
