I am teaching a student who will be moving to Singapore soon. I'm teaching basic life skills in English but I'm American and have never been to Singapore. Do they write checks in Singapore? What kind of appliances does the average home have? When does school start and end (times of day and times of year)? What holidays are important in Singapore and when are they? If something costs 1.50, how would you say that in words (in the U.S. we would say "a dollar fifty")? What kind of public transportation is available? Do you have to separate trash? Do most people understand and speak English? How about Japanese? What are some things you might find in a supermarket that would be different from what you would find in other countries? Which side of the road do you drive on? What kind of bank accounts do you have? Do you get paid by check or is it mostly direct deposit? How often is payday? What are some typical dishes there? Can you bargain everywhere? Any and all answers appreciated!

Singapore's great. It's very pro-business and English is widely spoken there.

"Singapore has once again beaten other countries on the World Bank list of best places in the world to do business.
According to a World Bank report, Singapore has topped the aggregate rankings for the ease of doing business."

Singapore has the best airport and airline (SIA) in the world and is the first to fly the new Airbus A380.

Why not check out the 2nd link - it's put together by expats and non-expats living in Singapore.

There are only 2 no-nos in Singapore - no drugs and no guns.

Singapore is super what ever you like you will locate. Boat Quay/ Clarke Quay is nice for a gentle night out, very westernised yet good mixture of travllers and locals. besides as many of the huge ex pat community here. For fairly late ingesting, attempt around highway (decrease back of Boat Quay), I even have seen human beings falling out of bars here at 6am. club highway has an excellent form of pub and golf equipment and eating places. it fairly is not any longer too commercial yet a stable vibe. once you're a guy searching for extra of a 'boys night out' ecosystem attempt Geylang or Duxton Rd. be careful how plenty you spend on those women nonetheless as a results of fact the bill gets out of control very immediately. Or there is often Orchard Towers (additionally ordinary as a results of fact the 4 flooring of whores) that is a actual eye opener to human beings travelling Asia for the 1st time. it fairly is nice for a chortle! easily Singapore night existence is going off 7 days each and every week. it fairly is costly nonetheless as a results of fact the tax on alcohol is extensive. a stable night often expenses approximately $two hundred (consists of bar snacks) yet you could accomplish that plenty extra advantageous than that once you're a consultant ;-)
