Well this year it's Casey Stoner (can't argue with that - even if he isn't everyones cup of tea!) but if you want opinion instead of fact I would probably go with Rossi - at the moment, and for the last few years.
Not only do his results speak for them selves, but the fact that he wasn't happy to sit on the same winning bike year after year, and prefered to challenge himself by moving on and developing other machines (and testing himself!) makes him someone special in my book.
If you mean who WAS the best, again only opinion, Barry Sheene - the books don't all rate him as a top racer, but he's taken the title, and he sure was a top geezer (as we say in the UK)

Stoner did well this year, but 1 championship does not mean anything when you look at the record books.
Even Arnaud Vincent won 1 !

I know he didn't win this year or even last year, but Valentino Rossi in my opinion is still the best. When he was on Honda, he could not be touched.

The best right now i would say would have to be the "DOCTOR"....But my fav is The Kentucky Kid...USA!!!!!!!!!!
