Its best to wait till latter in your pregnancy to buy baby stuff. Your going to get all kinds of presents, so you dont want to get stuff that someone else might give you at your baby shower. Dont get diapers unless noone else gets them, but thats usually what people buy. By the time my son was out of 1 size of diapers he was in the next size I would have had way too many infant diapers. When your baby comes home the most important things to have are diapers, wipes, formula even if your breast feeding keep a can just in case, bottles, blankets, you might want to check with your pediatrician too about any medicines and dosing, that will be ok for your baby, such as mylacon for gas relief, or infant tylenol, neosporine, or diaper rash cream. You don't want to be up at midnight with a colici or sick baby and not have an open drug store near. By the way the best diaper cream is resynol, its alittle more expensive but it works wonders and you dont need alot, its over the counter but you may have to ask the pharmasist to order it. I never put my child in a crib till he was 9 mo. but a bassinett or playyard with a bassinett, and a swing, and bouncer are must haves.

I think I started shopping at around 30 weeks. Ok, OK, maybe sooner! :) but just little things like outfits since I knew it was a boy! If you are having a shower I would wait until after the shower though so you don't get duplicate. The things you definitely need are: crib w/ mattress, about 4 sets of sheets and 2 or 3 mattress pads (believe me, when my son had a stomach virus at 9 months I was glad to have those!), burp clothes and bibs, changing table with pad and a few covers, lots of diapers and wipes, bottles (I suggest Dr Browns and even if you intend on breastfeeding you might need them so at least make sure to have a few on hand and some formula.. you can usually sign up for free programs from Enfamil and Similac and they will send you some free formula), if you are having a shower you will probably get clothes and hygiene items but things like baby shampoo will always be used, a boppy pillow is awesome whether you're breastfeeding or not, and my favorite thing was the Arms Reach CoSleeper!
Things that I would have NOT gotten: Like someone else said, a Moses basket.. I NEVER used it!
You can definitely wait on the high chair/play yard.. unless you have someone buying it for you! My son is 18 months and we never had a play yard.
Good luck!

My husband bought me a great book that's called "Baby-Must-Haves" by Parenting Magazine. It cost him $8 and it was so very well worth every penny of it. It gives you a list of things you need, things you can hold off on, the best deals, the greatest values and qualities, how much they cost and where you can find them at. It really is an awesome book that I suggest every parent-to-be invest in.
Of course if you'd like to shop a little before buying the book - just remember that you will never have enough diapers. Do you know the sex of the baby? When are you due? You can start off with onesies, socks, etc. I'm telling you - the book is the best thing to buy first, LOL!
Good luck.

For Baby:
crib , bottles , diapers, burp cloths , crib sheets, cloths, diapers rash ointment, baby thermoter, car seat, diaper bag, playpen, stroller, highchair, changing pad, baby soap and lotion, baby bath-tub, potty chair eventually. A good father for the baby and family support so you can get some rest while they baby sit

Shop whenever you get the money and time, but don't shop for clothes yet since you don't know the gender, just shop for something that doesn't matter the gender like bottles. If you need more stuff to do, try to buy crosswords or try to take a slow walk in the park (a shady park) with someone, like your man.

I am not sure how far along you are, but I started shopping around 28 weeks or so. You will need a lot but one thing that I wish I had bought was a moses basket or a bassinett. It wouldn't hurt to buy a ton of wipes! Trust me, you will use all of them. As far as diapers, my boy was born 6 pounds 15 ounces and I have used 6 packs of newborn diapers and he is just now starting to grow out of them. Hope I've helped!
congratulations!

I think that it depends on your financial situation. If money is kinda limited, then I would space it out over a couple of months. I've always heard that you shouldn't buy anything before six months because it's bad luck. As for what you can hold off on....you won't need a high chair for a while...or toys....or even a stroller for that matter....they have a list at whattoexpect.com that is kind of helpful....

You dont need to duy anything until your 30 weeks (that what my book said.) Buy the crib and dresser. and changing table then see what you get for you baby shower. I didn't do this and we ended up with a million of everything.
