I was just wondering if there's any bluegrass fans out there. I grew up listening to Bill Monroe though I have listen to Rhonda Vincent, Flatt & Skruggs, Ricky Scaggs, but, is Alison Krause considered bluegrass or was she in her earlier years.. Is there any groups or solo artists that are pretty good.. let me know I'm willing to listen to some newer stuff. But, used to the traditional artists... Thanks in advance... Merry Christmas/Happy New Year everyone...

Hey Caveman you were wondering my age well, I'm soon to be 41 in Jan. My folks are Tennesseeans and they used to Watch Bill Monroe when we all lived up in Michigan. He played in a local High School from time to time in the Burbs outside Detroit.

One of the best and most accurate group of pickers is "The Country Gentlemen"... They do the older music and stick to the older style.
A couple of my favorites by them are "Footprints in the Snow" and "A Beautiful Life"... OH !!!.. and "Can't Help but Wonder Where I'm Bound" !!!
Allison Krause is considered Progressive Bluegrass but can play traditional when she wishes.

I like all the old timers, beginning with Ralph Stanley and Bill Monroe and moving right on up to Alison Krauss and Rhonda Vincent. I've been to at least twenty or more of Rhonda Vincent's concerts in the last two years. She's my favorite right now. I'm even a member of her fan club. She's a real prize!

Another fond of the older bluegrass, Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe, Vince Gill did some in his early (local) days. One of those things though in small doses, some of it can get a bit hard on the hearing, i.e. when the banjo is out of tune or the fiddler is over-working.
Anything traditional or contemporary country is always good to hear. (except for some of the little 'girl baby singers' out there, or those who are confused with rock & rap. Rock is fine, but it's not country.)

Besides the ones that have already been mentioned...an old group...Don Reno and Red Smiley were hard to beat. Ricky Skaggs is also good.
And yes, Allison Krauss cut her teeth on Bluegrass. She learned to play the fiddle from an old man who lived down the road from her in Champagne, Illinois.

You don't tell your age, but if You like Rhonda and Alison, you must be fairly young, !!!
And I am so PROUD that ANY young person (from 12 to 30) is into such a great genre of music!!!
And yes, they are BLUEGRASS, but to sell records they have to hide that fact!! (Sad, huh?)
But (REAL) country music is deeply cemented in the core of Bluegrass!!!
(you forgot Vince Gill)
Stay with your heart and don't let a good genre die!!!!!!

Old Crow Medicine Show is awesome. It is newer, and they guys totally don't look like they would be playing Bluegrass, but their music is seriously great.
