I should probably start by saying I'm a poor student so don't judge how I have no money!!
Basically I took all of my available cash out of my account and so there was £6.82 left, and yesterday I deposited a cheque for £25 into my account (from my gran, bless her) and it shows that it's been paid in but it still says that my available balance is £6.82? Does this mean the cheque hasn't cleared or my account just hasn't caught up? I'm checking my account information online, does that affect it? I was told it would take 3 days for the cheque to go into my account (by a friend, not bank employee although he's employed by a different bank) and it's only been one.. any ideas?? Thanks a lot.

The moneys there but the cheque hasnt cleared. I would give it 3-5 days from when the cheque was deposited to have those funds available to you.

Usually it takes 2-3 or sometimes 4-5 business working days for a cheque to clear, call your bank and see what it is for them, or after 4 days if it still hasnt shown up go to the bank you deposited it in and find out why it hasnt cleared

Say you had $0 in your account and deposited a check for $50. Most banks will give you 1/2 the money as an available balance which is what you can spend, etc. So it would say your available balance is $25.

When the check clears it will say your current and available balance is $50.

It's likely that the check won't show as a credit and available balance until it has cleared. This could take three days. Banks differ in their clearing times.

Looks like it hasn't cleared the bank yet. Here in the US it's usually only a day, but I guess it takes longer where you are.

yea friend is right .. used to be different but now most banks even though they put the money figure into your account won't clear the funds for use for about 3 days ..

It might not have processed, but also there might be a pledge on it. I know that sucks but it basically is the bank temporarily using your money. If that is what it is you can go in and tell them to take it off. Good luck!!!

It would take 3 business days to clear, not 3 calendar days.

With a balance lower than the check, they wont release the funds until the check clears...good luck!
