You know, it's just one of those games every household has but nobody plays.

I used to play it with my brothers as a kid -- all the time -- because we could all play 8-80 years old. It's a game that doesn't get "out of style," it just doesn't get used used as much these days as everyone is used to the Internet & the "I want it now!" philosophy/way of life. Now, I play it with my kids when we are snowed in during the winter, or during the early summer when severe thunderstorms are occurring. **We can continue to play by candlelight (and have) when the power goes out.

I think we'll play it this weekend! Thanks for reminding me of good family-friendly things to do like this!

Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays & Happy New Year to you & yours!!!

Heres an example. We'll use the dark blue properties. Lets say you own all of them Ok, you own: Boardwalk and Park Place. Now, that you own all of the same color, which is a monopoly, then you can build houses and hotels on your properties, but you have to have the monopoly of that color first. Lets say you want to build 2 houses on boardwalk. You would have to spend $400 because it takes 200 per house. To get a hotel, then you can trade 5 houses and get a hotel which will then cost a $1000 to make because its 200x5. Now you have a hotel on boardwalk. And yeah, you can keep going even though no one has a monopoly yet, but, you can trade with another player one property for another one and see if they accept so you can get a monopoly and start building on your properties. You play that way and NO, does that give a player an automatic win. there are many monopolys on the board, every player will have to have a monopoly sooner or later. Hope this helps with your question!

That tends to be what happens in our house. I keep buying more because I like all the different editions and then they sit there. However, I did play a Monopoly look-alike when I was in Costa Rica a few months back and it had completely different, faster, funner rules. Using those rules on American Monopoly games has finally made it fun enough that we do play it sometimes.

No, and if you notice, those boardgames sorta have dust on it, cause nobody plays them ANYMORE. Usually board games, after they're bought, are played immediately, but after a month or so after playing them everyday, people just get sick of it, and those boardgames like Monopoly dont get played anymore. Or it's either there arent much people in the house, 'cause Monopoly is a game best played when there are a lot of people. Like me, I used to play it with cousins and we got addicted to it but after a month no one seemed to like it anymore.

know you play but it's played for so long in one sitting that eventually everyone gets pissed off that grandma has pink fifty's and your uncle's a drunk and the banker. this all leads to a long period of time between monopoly play. otherwise everyone would play it all the time.
also you get punished for rolling doubles. i mean come on everyone loves doubles.

yeah it is too bad they can't let you first try the game and see if you like it. maybe find a friend that has the game you are curious about and play a game with them.
