Let a represent the number of fish A caught and b represent the number of fish b caught.
Their total, a + b = 75
And you know that a = 4b
Just substitute a = 4b into the original equation, so that you have:
4b + b = 75 And solve
5b = 75
b = 15
B caught 15 fish.

A + B = 75 eq1
A = 4B eq2
so Substitute 4B to eq1 since A =4B
4B + B = 75
5B = 75
B = 15
therefore, B caught 15 fishes

There are 5 parts. A has 4 parts. B has 1 part. 75 divided by 5 is 15.
Sorry thumbs downer. You don't need NASA equations to figure out simple math problems like this one.
Just like an equation "What's 45 + 97?" it's easiest to add 100 and subtract 3 than to add 97.
