I don't know, but the government already spends over $500 billion dollars a year on medicare and medicaid--and that's just socialized health insurance for the elderly, disabled and the indigent.
By way of comparison, the budget just passed by Congress allocates $70 billion to fund the Iraq and Afghanistan wars for about the next 6 months (so figure $140 billion/year).

What is there about the admirer's of Karl Marx and the utopian theory behind communism. Are leftists in this country that ignorant of the cost of socialism. Its too bad that anti-American leftists weren't charged the same income taxes that the Scandinavian countries pay for your beloved socialism and re-distribution of wealth. Socialists should have a different tax structure than the rest of us so that they could feel good about helping scumbags that are here illegally or trash that won't work. Stop your sniveling about social programs and serve as an example and walk down skid row and hand out half of your net paycheck to the downtrodden after all they deserve to split your money with you.
Sweden 59% income tax and 25% sales tax
Norway and Denmark also have a 25% sales tax
I work hard for my money, I pay for my own health insurance, and I don't feel I need to pay for your bloody health insurance, after all, 13 million illegal aliens are already getting free medical from us taxpayers!
If its so terrible here in the USA, why don't you immigrate to a more understanding socialist country where you too could pay income tax like in Sweden, which could possible eat up 84% of your salary, you'll feel so much better re-disitributing your wages to others.

Not sure how much it would cost, but I would rather be paying to help people than to blow them up. And the costs would be offset by NOT having to pay for catastrophic illnesses that can be prevented or caught in the early stages.
