One week ago, DD woke up not being able to feel her legs. They were swollen and red with bruised looking knee caps. We propped them up, the swelling went down but now her legs hurt so bad she is in a wheelchair. Chiropractor and GP ordered an MRI of lower back which came out normal.
Her legs are painful to the touch. She cannot put weight on them, she has two points on her spine that cause complete bilateral numbness in her legs. One spot is just above the hips, the other is just below bra strap level. Manual traction removes the pain in the legs but when legs are released the pain comes rushing back worse than ever. Has anyone ever heard of these symptoms and what they mean? The docs are perplexed and I am getting worried.

She needs to be referred to a neurologist. Next step, that specialist will probably order a full MRI imaging of her spine, with a focus on thoracic region (that bra level). Lesions in the thoracic region can cause problems from that level and down to the feet.

My guess is that there is some kinda of tissue related infection, cause the legs to be swollen and horribly painful. When legs have a probelm it effects the back, you know, all the way up the spine, so that effects all her body center.

First of all, you shouldn't be going to a chiropractor for these serious symptoms. My suggestion is that you immediately take your daughter to a major hospital in the nearest major city. It sounds to me like your daughter may have some neurological problem, and she must be seen by a specialist.

My friends son had symptoms like those and was diagnosed with Perthes Disease.
It's quite rare in girls and most likely wont be Perthes but just a thought and to rule it out have them x-ray her hips.

I am very sorry could. be bruise or contusions, peripheral neuropathy, bone infection, phlebitis, Hematoma, Thromblophlebtitis, Acute Kidney failure, lyme disease, Porphyria, Pulmonary embolism, Thrombocytopenia. Hope she gets better. :)

it sounds like neurolgiical intervention should be seeked very soon. don't take any chances when it comes to your child. doctors tend to put it on the back burner and cover it with meds to see what happens and it may be too late. take her to a specialist .

she may have some form of muscular dystrophy, but im not sure at all
