your wifi communication frequency and the cordless phone frequency are probably really close to each other. I'd like to suggest that you consider getting a different cordless phone with a different frequency range.

Would your cordless phone happen to be a 2.4 Ghz one by any chance? Because if so, they're known to cause problems with WiFi, because they run off of the same frequencies.
The only solution I know of (outside of buying a 900 Mhz phone) is to keep them separate. Like, keep the devices in separate rooms if possible. That way the signals have less of a chance to interfere with each other. :)

As mentioned, your cordless phone is probably on the same frequency as your WiFi. There are two other frequencies of cordless phones, 5.8 Ghz (not that common) and the new DECT phones. 2.4 GHz is an unregulated frequency, so everything from Baby monitors to Microwaves can use it (and do) and will interfere with your WiFi signal. DECT phones will not, and are generally pretty inexpensive and easy-to-find.

If your cordless phone is 2.4 ghz, it might be interfering with you router since they both use the same frequencies. Try keeping them separated.

Possibly 2 problems (this happened to my friend)
If you have DSL, then the modem/router was hooked up incorrectly so that you can't be on the phone and the net at the same time.
Otherwise try changing your router to a different channel to avoid interference.
